Creating a “cast” for your spine
My
understanding is that I need to pull in my belly button and try to bring my ribs together near my stomach, while at the same time pushing out my upper chest and tightening the muscles in my mid-back to bring my shoulder blades together, and then, finally, preserving the arch in my lower back. I hope I’ve captured this correctly and that these are the four main things I need to remember for maintaining good posture and for picking up heavy objects.
Another way to think about it is to think of your spine as bamboo not a bendy straw.
